Build Something Real with BoxLang + BoxLang AI

The BoxLang + AI Hackathon at FIU is a hands-on, beginner-friendly experience where students learn modern development tools, form teams, solve a real problem, and turn an idea into working software.

You do not need previous BoxLang experience. The event begins with practical workshops led by Luis Majano FIU alumnus, Founder and CEO of Ortus Solutions, and creator of BoxLang and BoxLang AI. You will learn the foundations of BoxLang before exploring how BoxLang AI brings models, agents, tools, memory, RAG, and application logic together.

Then it is time to build.

Teams will select one of ten real-world challenges involving areas such as incident response, autonomous agents, software development, research, AI security, data analysis, knowledge systems, customer support, integrations, and developer productivity.

Projects do not need to be production-ready. We are looking for thoughtful ideas, meaningful use of BoxLang and BoxLang AI, working functionality, and a clear demonstration of what your team created.

Review all ten challenges, their core requirements, optional directions, community goals, and suggested BoxLang AI components.

Review Challenges

Each team must submit one complete Devpost project by 6:30 PM ET on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

Submit early. We recommend completing your submission at least 30 minutes before the deadline.

What You Need to Build

Your team must:

  • Select one of the ten official hackathon challenges.

  • Build a solution that meaningfully uses BoxLang.

  • Use BoxLang AI or BX Agents as a meaningful part of the solution.

  • Demonstrate working functionality related to the selected challenge.

  • Be prepared to present and demonstrate the project during judging.

The project does not need to be production-ready, but the core experience or workflow should function well enough for the judges to understand and evaluate it.

What Your Devpost Submission Must Include

Project Name

Give your project a distinctive and descriptive name.

Complete Team

One team member should create the submission and add every teammate to the Devpost project.

Challenge Selected

Clearly identify which of the ten official challenges your team addressed.

Project Description

Explain:

  • The problem your team selected

  • Who experiences this problem

  • Your proposed solution

  • How the solution works

  • What makes the approach useful or distinctive

  • What your team completed during the hackathon

Technology Used

Describe how your project uses:

  • BoxLang

  • BoxLang AI or BX Agents

  • Models or AI providers

  • Agents, tools, memory, RAG, pipelines, or other AI components

One project will be selected as the overall hackathon winner. Teams may consist of one to four participants. Each registered member of the winning team will receive one individual prize, with up to four prizes available.

If the first-place team has fewer than four participants, the judges may recognize additional projects with second- or third-place awards. Prize distribution will depend on the size of each winning team, and the judges will explain the final award structure before judging begins.
